Lisa Diamond Photography

I’m a wife and mom. I’m a photographer. I own a cobbler apron company called Aprons Americana.  I have a blog:  Lisa Diamond's Blog.  I was raised in Los Angeles and was heavily influenced by music and the hippie style of the 1960’s, Lilly Pulitzer, Vera Neumann, and looking at VOGUE. Fashion magazines inspired me to become a photographer.

Lisa Diamond Photography is a photographic archive of my photos from present and past.

I started taking photos when I was ten years old with my parents’ $80 Kodak camera.  When I was 12 I started shooting with a Kodak X-15 Instamatic.  When I was 16, living in Westchester, California, I decided I wanted to be a photographer and needed a 35mm camera. Serendipitously, my friend Jeff Bernstein’s cousin needed to sell his Minolta SRT-101, so I bought it.  I will always be grateful to Jeff for this hook-up.  Finding a camera just fell into place.

I shot mostly Kodachrome when I was starting out.  I was totally self-taught until I started taking photography classes at Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California. There I learned how to develop black and white film and print my photos.

I shot most of my what I consider my “classics” starting when I was 10.  The photos were mostly of my sisters Keely, Eleni, Roxanne, my mom, Barbara, and friends Cindy and Debra.  And many, many other family members and friends.

I photographed my family and friends a lot for my assignments at Brooks Institute of Photography.  Sometimes I would drive back and forth from Santa Barbara to Woodland Hills twice in one day.  I wasn’t really good at using strobe lights – perhaps it was the instructors…ha.  I have always loved natural light, short depth of field, some humor and moodiness in my photos.

I was fortunate to document the heady New Wave 80’s era while living in Los Angeles.  The clubs and music (mostly British) were fantastic.  Melrose Avenue was in its hey-day.

In 1990 I moved to New York for career reasons, and my photography subsided because I was working full time in Manhattan.  In my Manhattan and New Jersey years, I did shoot some nice classic shots, mostly of my son.

When I moved to Wisconsin in 2008, I took lots of photographs of scenics and still lifes.

I’m grateful to have the time to learn how to master this new technology. I am extremely blessed to be living in the era of digital photography, scanners, great sewing machines, websites, blogs, Etsy, Facebook and Twitter.   I always carry my digital camera with me.
